The house
The nature cottage is located in Terjat ( Auvergne ), in the yard of the former presbytery. Because in former times the presbytery played an important role in village life, it was allowed to have a Pigeonnier. ( pigeon tower ). Keeping pigeons was reserved for persons of status and purely for consumption. The pigeon tower has now been transformed into a charming and romantic guesthouse for two with a real four-poster bed under the beautiful wooden roof construction. The following facilities are available; toilet, sink, walk-in shower with rain shower, kitchen with hot and cold water, 4 burner cooker, fridge, coffee maker, kettle and kitchen equipment. There is a dining table and a cosy seating area.
Ideal for those who want to use the day to explore the beautiful surroundings or spend a day relaxing. The Pigeonnier also offers the use of the campsite's facilities such as the swimming pool, workshop space with freezer, washing machine and dryer. Adults can also use the jacuzzi and infra-red sauna for a fee. WIFI is free of charge. The adjoining mini-camping site is equipped for families with small children. In short, all facilities for a quiet, relaxing and romantic stay are available in holiday home Le Pigeonnier.
NATURE AND SURROUNDINGS;
The campsite is located at an altitude of about 550 metres, in the village of Terjat on the edge of the Massif Central. An ideal spot for those seeking peace and nature, or who love hiking and cycling. Typical French villages and towns can be found in the immediate vicinity. Just a few kilometres away are the towns of Marcillat and Neris les Bains. Here you will find all basic amenities such as a supermarket, bakery, tourist office and any medical care for humans or animals. Larger beautiful old French cities such as Montlucon, Commentry and Pionsat with their sights are all within 15 km. reachable, Further south lies Clermont-Ferrand, capital of the department Puy de Dôme with its
mountain region and the remains of long-extinct volcanoes. Vichy, Neris les Bains and Évaux les Bains are famous for their spas. The villages of Sault and Saint-Éloy-les-Mines have larger swimming lakes with all kinds of amenities. A visit to the many typical French flea markets should definitely be on your to-do list. There is always one in the immediate vicinity during your stay.

Holiday home Le Pigeonnier is located in the yard of mini-camping Sous les Cloches, which literally means "Under the Bells". The yard contains a vicarage ( Presbytère ) dating from about 1802 ( the home of your hosts ), mini-camping, holiday home La Poire, holiday home Le Pigeonnier ( the pigeon tower ), reception/ recreation room/ workshop, infra-red sauna, sanitary room, jacuzzi, heated above-ground swimming pool, vegetable garden and the private storage and shed areas. The yard with adjacent church is located on the outskirts of the village of Terjat in the heart of France. Coming from the north, follow the A71 to the Montlucon exit and you will reach your destination after about 25 km on excellent inland roads. The distance from Utrecht is about 850 km and easily covered in a day.

Restaurants, food & wine
The area around Terjat is not directly a wine region, but that does not take away from the fact that you can of course enjoy the most delicious French wines which can also be bought at very affordable prices in the local supermarkets. The towns of Commentry, Neris les Bains and Montlucon, all just a stone's throw away, offer excellent restaurants, which of course serve the finest wines.
Activities
There are several hiking trails and cycle paths in the immediate vicinity. Visit Montlucon with its medieval centre. The towns of Neris les Bains, Evaux-les-Bains and Vichy offer several spas. The rivers Le Cher and La Sioule are great for swimming and/or canoeing. In Lapeyrouse there is a historic velo-rail where you can explore the surroundings of the old mining area.
On the Puy-de-Dôme you can para sail under supervision. Many old extinct volcanoes can be visited around Clermont-Ferrand.
The lakes in Sault and Saint-Eloy-les-Mines lend themselves to swimming, sailing or relaxing on the beach. At the campsite's reception, various leaflets and event booklets are available with information on various things to know. On a clear day, the Puy de Sancy with its altitude of 1886 metres is visible from the campsite.

Further remarks
Terjat's church, église Saint Martin was founded around 1100 by the Dukes of Bourbon. Instead of a steeple, the church has a so-called "bell wall ".
The bells ring only 3 times a day, at 7am, noon and 7pm. These are the times when farmers used to go to the fields, return home in the afternoon to eat and rest, and return home in the evening after a day's toil in the fields.
