The house
Welcome in our lovely holiday home, set on a mountain top, in the shade of monumental trees, in between two rivers.
For peace and privacy seekers who enjoy the babbling murmur of water.
The gite is set in the countryside, yet close to the town of Le Mayet de Montagne with all necessary amenities.
The building has traditional thick stone walls, making it comfortably cool, even on hot summer days.
The house consists of two parts, connected at the front by a covered terrace.
On one side the kitchen is entered through the terrace. Above is a large double bedroom and a bathroom with bathtub and toilet.
At the other side there is a large living room, renovated in mountain hut style with a cozy wood-burning stove.
On the large attic space there are a double bed and a bunk bed.
The two main rooms are on the ground floor, connected at the rear by a bathroom with shower, sink and toilet.
This house also has a basement, partially carved out of the rock. Here is a playroom with table tennis table and dart board.
Instead of a swimming pool there is the opportunity to cool off in the river that runs past the house at the bottom of the rock. It is a wonderful place to sit in the shade, bathe and for children to play in the water. A path has been laid down from the garden.
The natural garden has spots in the sun and shade throughout the day. It has:

According to Lonely Planet, it is a true gem and the glacial valleys and volcano tops can easily compete with Icelandic landscapes. In 2016 it was chosen by Lonely Planet as one of the 10 best travel destinations.

We hebben hier twee fijne weken doorgebracht. Een ruime slaapkamer met een ruim tweepersoonsbed (180x200) met prima matras. De badkamer beneden is erg fijn, ruime douche hoek, dan ga ik niet boven in een bad staan douchen. De keuken, het is misschien even wennen om maar drie kookpunten te hebben, maar dit werkt prima, zeker met zo’n goede oven tot je beschikking. Dat heb ik wel anders meegemaakt. De “jagerhut “ met palletkachel is een heerlijke plek om je ‘s avonds terug te trekken of heerlijk bij het raam te gaan zitten als je partner nog ligt te slapen in de grote slaapkamer.
De overkapping, misschien gen schoonheidsprijs maar, wat is dat fijn als het weer even niet helemaal mee werkt. Wij hebben nog nooit zo vaak buiten gegeten als deze vakantie.
Het beekje was een beek geworden, door de extreme regen en smeltwater. Hierdoor is de valling van het water wel erg duidelijk hoorbaar is, daar hadden we niet echt op gerekend. Dat vonden wij wel een ding.
Er is een mooie wandelroute om het stuwmeer, die begint meteen voor je deur. Ga rechts of links en dan het bruggetje over en aan de overkant weer rechts het bos in, maakt niet uit. Het is een leuke wandeling. Wees voorbereid op teken! Niet alleen bij je dier maar ook bij jezelf. De vochtige warmte is favoriet bij teken. En dan de bakker in het dorp, komt het traditionele brood, duurder maar elke cent waard. Het is de bakker tegenover de deur van de kerk. Een echte Franse bakker, geen mooie etalage, geen opsmuk gewoon super goed brood! We komen al jaren in Frankrijk, veel lekker brood gegeten maar dit…. (Het water loopt me in de mond tijdens het schrijven ) dit brood is ook prima de volgende dag op te piepen. Rond 11 uur is het klaar, ga dan brood kopen, je krijgt dan warm brood…. Ik moet me dan beheersen om niet in de auto terug al te beginnen met eten, dit brood heeft niets nodig, zelfs geen boter. Alleen hiervoor wil ik al terug :)Charles en Marjon from Ulft,
Na een vriendelijk persoonlijk ontvangst en rondleiding
heerlijk genoten van het mooie comfortabele huis, tuin en omgeving.
Door het grote doorzichtig afdak konden we ook bij slecht weer lekker buiten zitten.
Vanuit het huis fijne wandelingen gemaakt en tot rust gekomen in de mooie tuin.

Activities
The area is ideal for endless hiking, but also for mountain biking, fishing, mountain climbing and horse riding and in winter skiing and cross-country skiing.
Near the house is Lake St. Clement, set in a beautiful location, with plenty of recreational opportunities for young and old. This lake is bordered by a dam, after which it flows into the "Besbre" which runs past the house at the bottom of the garden. Here you can swim, canoe, fish. There is also a playground, a treetop adventure park with a zip line over the water, a quad trail and a restaurant.
Slightly further, at an altitude of 1000 meters is La Loge des Gardes. A small ski area that also offers a lot of fun for young and old, also in summer, such as tobogganing, mountain-stepping, mountain-boarding, brush-slide, walking and cycling routes and there is also a restaurant.
Within a half-hour drive you can visit numerous castles, including the Chateau of Lapalisse, Billy, the medieval ruins of Chateau Montgilbert, etc.
The famous spa of Vichy is at 20 minutes, with a town beach and a promenade along the water, with nice restaurants should not be missed, as well as Chatel-Montagne, Clermont-Ferrand, Roanne, Saint-Hoan le Chatel, Ambierle, etc.
A nice experience is a visit to the Monday morning market in Marcigny. A large, busy market with small cattle and poultry, and many local, often organic products, surrounded by pleasant terraces.
