The house
Renovated town house dating back to the 16th century. We offer two double en suite bedrooms, one with king size double bed and the other which has a king size double bed, or twin beds. We also have two further rooms that can be used as a family suite. There is a large dining hall with typical Normandy fireplace and a delightful drawing room with open fire. Large English style garden with sitting area for our clients.

Hambye is a small, town with bars, shops, post office and weekly market. We are lucky enough to live in a town that is surrounded by farmland and picturesque countryside which offers pretty and interesting walks. Our Abbey is a national monument with a ruined abbey church and extensive, privately owned monastic buildings. Hambye makes an excellent centre for visiting the great tourist sites in Normandy. Mont St Michel, the Bayeaux Tapestry and the World War ll landing beaches are all within an hour's drive. The larger local towns of St Lo, Villedieu les Poeles, Coutances and Granville all offer museums, shops, restaurants and markets.

Overlooking the garden to the rear, this is a small double bedroom with a standard double bed. There is a hand basin in the room. With bedroom 4 this forms part of family suite of two bedrooms to accommodate 2 adults and 2 children/adults in a twin bedroom with the possibility of an extra bed. The bathroom, shared by these two rooms, is accessed from the landing and has a shower, hand basin and lavatory. As with all our rooms there is a kettle and everything needed to make a cup of tea or coffee.

Op onze doorreis vanuit Nederland naar Bretagne een tussenstop gemaakt voor een nacht in Hambye, maison Quesnel. We zijn hartelijk ontvangen en in stijl verwend door Lavinia.
English hospitality, beautiful charasteristic house, delicious fresh and tasty dinner and the following morning a wonderful breakfast, very nice room, good beds, a real treat!

Fantastisch gelegen huis, midden in het dorp. Prachtig gerenoveerd huis (Une Maison Bourgeoise); alle kamers zijn zeer schoon & comfortabel.
Goed Frans ontbijt. John en Lavinia ziin schatten van mensen, hartelijk, vriendlijk, behulpzaam en ze kennen de omgeving zeer goed, dus kunnen allerlei tips geven.
De abdij nabij is de moeite waard. Het is een half uur rijden naar een strand, en grotere steden als Coutances (prachtige kathedraal), Saint-Lo, en Granville (heerlijk vis eten in de haven).Zeker de moeite waard en we komen absoluut snel terug!

We had the most wonderful time. John and Lavinia are the perfect hosts, kind and warm-hearted. The house is a dream and Hambye is right in the centre wherever you want to go in Normandy. we definitely will go back there soon.
Restaurants, food & wine
Hambye has an excellent restaurant near the Abbey where the chef was voted top young chef in Normandy 2014, and he certainly has not rested on his laurels! There are many other restaurants in the locality offering a wide range of prices. We are pleased to offer meals under prior arrangement with dietary requirements catered for. Of course you are welcome to picnic in the dining-room or garden, and there is a microwave oven for your use.
Activities
Hambye has an indoor tennis court available for hire. There are swimming pools in the nearby towns of Villedieu les Poeles and Coutances. Miles of safe, sandy beaches are 25 minutes away on the west coast of La Manche. Fishing licences are available for keen anglers. There is a riding school in Hambye and many signposted walks and bicycle rides to suit all levels of participation.

Further remarks
Dating back to the 17th century our town house offers 3 comfortable, double bedrooms with their own bathrooms, or the possibility of a family suite. The Bed & Breakfast rooms are all situated on the first floor and completely separate from our private rooms on the second floor. There is a salon for our guests and a secluded area in the walled garden with gazebo and furniture for sunny afternoons. . As a trained cook Lavinia offers evening meals - either a simple 2-course supper or a grander 4-course dinner.
John and Lavinia have lived in Hambye for over 25 years and feel that with the experience we have gained, both here and at our previous address, we can offer a warm welcome and excellent accommodation at reasonable prices. We hope we will have the pleasure of meeting you here in the near future.
